Mat Cardinal's fresh and soulful sound brings together tightly arranged modern country and the classic sounds of 90s rock radio. Cardinal pours his heart out with the confidence of a young Keith Urban and laying his truth bare with the conviction of a northern Ronnie Van Zant.
Growing up in a musical family, Cardinal once found a guitar in his closet and, finding a desire to create music, set himself to joining in on the family jams. By 15, he’d developed into an excellent young player, put together a band with his brother and cousins, and traveled throughout Northwestern Alberta, B.C, and the Territories performing at schools and youth conferences. Eventually Cardinal struck out on his own, and emboldened by his win at the Road To The Main Stage contest at Big Valley Jamboree, which afforded him the opportunity to sing after Miranda Lambert, he began writing and singing his own songs throughout the Edmonton music community, landing coveted gigs as support for acclaimed and classic Canadian acts such as Gord Bamford, Kim Mitchell, and Trooper.
